Cycling group

Cycling is an excellent form of exercise which millions of people enjoy every day. Once you own a roadworthy bike and some basic safety equipment, there are many routes that you can explore in Medway.

Riverside Group

Active Medway Cycle Scheme is the first of its kind in England. Organised by Medway Public Health Department in conjunction with British Cycle and CTC, our scheme is especially designed for beginner riders, riders who require more confidence on routes with a little traffic, or just wanting to get fitter. GP referred riders on weight loss programmes and post cardiac rehab clients are all welcome.

All our rides are led by trained cycle leaders, hand picked by us, so that they can help you rediscover the joy of cycling whilst engaging in friendly banter.

Consistency is our strength! Same venue, same time! And the routes vary little so that by riding them regularly you can see how quickly your fitness levels improve. During the summer there will be five rides to choose from and three through the winter. Our beginners route is flat, which follows the River Medway compared to the intermediate ride at Hoo or our longest ride at Lordswood which has a couple of slopes thrown in to test your fitness. From 10mins to around 10 miles, you get to decide.

When fully fit and you feel that you have out grown us, and wish to join a club we have the knowledge to signpost you to one that will suit your needs. We work well with two or three in the area. Or of course you can always stay with us for the social side and maybe consider developing by volunteering to become a cycle leader.
